Die <a class="" href="https://www.zeit.de/gesellschaft/zeitgeschehen/2019-10/extinction-rebellion-aktivismus-klimaschutz-blockaden-demonstration" target="_blank">Klimaaktivisten der Gruppe Extinction Rebellion</a> wollten damit vor zwei Wochen die Verbindung zwischen der Wall Street und jenen Energieunternehmen, die fossile Rohstoffe verbrennen, sichtbar machen. Nur wenige Tage zuvor hatten sich in Minneapolis, Chicago und San Francisco Demonstranten vor den Filialen von <span class="rtr-schema-org" itemscope="" itemtype="http://schema.org/Organization"><a class="rtr-entity" href="/thema/jpmorgan-chase">JPMorgan Chase</a></span> versammelt, wegen der Rolle des größten amerikanischen Finanzkonzerns bei der Finanzierung von Kohleminen und Ölförderprojekten. Die Aktivisten wollen auf diese Weise öffentlichen Druck auf Banken, Fonds und Versicherer erzeugen, damit sie sich aus Geschäften mit der Energiegewinnung aus fossilen Rohstoffen zurückziehen.
